The Town of Greenwich opened registration for all Spring 2020 activities on Monday, January 27th. There are a variety of programs for youth including: girls softball, co-ed tee ball & baseball, soccer league & clinics and much more! Also, don’t forget to submit your photos for the Snow Sculpture Contest to the Greenwich Parks and Rec Department. Photos are due by Friday, March 6th (contest open to Greenwich residents only). Greenwich Youth Spring Programs
Baseball/Tball
Junior Baseball Spring 2020 Ages 8 & 9
Registration closes: Friday, March 13 or when the program has filled
Program starts: April 4th
Program description: An instructional league for ages 8 and 9. Combined player & coach pitching as well as instruction during game-play will be incorporated for continued learning.
Location: various Town fields, including Glenville, New Lebanon, & North Street Schools, and Loughlin Avenue.
Small Fry I Baseball Age 6
Registration closes: Friday, March 27 or when the program has filled
Program starts: April 25th
Program description: An instructional league for 6 year-olds that incorporates coach pitching and using the T if necessary. Coaches will pitch to the players on their team. If a player does not put the ball in play after the 5th pitch, the T will be brought out. There are no strikeouts. This program will meet on Saturday afternoons only. Practice will precede a 3 inning game. Total time for practice and game is 1.5 hours.

Small Fry II Baseball Age 7

Program starts: April 4th
Program description: An instructional league for 7 year olds. Coach-pitching and instruction throughout game play is incorporated for continued learning. *An advanced T-Ball League is offered for 6 year olds – see “Small Fry I” registration on the Town’s Recreation web page under youth programs. Additionally, a division for 8 & 9 year olds is available: “Junior Baseball.”

Golf Clinics Ages 6-10
Program starts: Friday, March 27th
Join Coach John Czarnecki for an introduction to the fundamentals of golf. Become acquainted with the basics including proper grip, stance, swing, alignment, balance, putting, chipping, course etiquette and rules of the game. Coach Czar holds a certified coaching permit with the State of Connecticut. He was a golf coach at Greenwich High School from 2005 through 2016. Coach Czar introduced both his sons to the game of golf. Both sons became All State players for the Greenwich High School Golf team and later played NCAA Division I golf. He will be assisted by former GHS Golf team players.

Skatepark
Skateboard Clinics Ages 6-12

Program starts: Tuesday, April 7th & Thursday, April 9th
Program description: Clinics will help young skaters ages 6 to 12 years old learn park etiquette and basic techniques such as drop-ins and Ollies in a safe and fun atmosphere.

Spring Fever Skate Jam – Saturday, April 4th, Ages 6 and Up
Spring Fever Skate Jam for ages 6 and up is on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at the Greenwich Skatepark on Arch St. (Rain date: Sunday, April 5, 2020) The event is free and open to anyone, but participants must register! Helmet and full pads required – elbow, knee and wrist guards.
Free Skate Lessons for beginners from 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Babe Ruth Softball Ages 9–14

Program description: The emphasis of Babe Ruth Softball is on education, skill development, participation for players at all levels of athletic ability, and to ensure the participants have FUN. The Greenwich Girls Softball League is organized according to AGE & ABILITY.

Junior Softball Ages 7-8

Program description: Junior softball is designed for beginner softball players, ages 7 & 8, to teach them the fundamentals of softball. Among teammates of their own age, players will learn the basic skills of the game, including throwing, catching, and hitting. This is a coach-pitch league and special rules and equipment are applied for the development and welfare of this young age group.
