Throughout the summer we surveyed and inquired with our IN Greenwich social media followers as to where the best lobster roll in Greenwich, CT could be found. There were several suggestions (see them listed below) but by far the largest vote was for Fjord Fish Market in Cos Cob. And so, we investigated for ourselves! We interviewed Brian Hayslip, Fjord Fish Market‘s Regional Manager to find out what makes their lobster rolls so special. “The lobster meat we use for our lobster rolls comes from Maine and is freshly hand-picked, daily,” said Brian. “You can taste the difference when lobster meat is fresh cracked as opposed to frozen. The meat is chunkier and has a better texture. And with all of the seafood we offer, you know we only source the highest quality of wild-caught and farm-raised products.”
Fjord offers these three types of lobster rolls, all served with french fries and fresh coleslaw:
CT Lobster Roll (hot) – Fresh picked, steamed lobster meat served hot with drawn butter and fresh lemon. Served on a grilled New England style bun.
NE Lobster Roll (cold) – Fresh picked, steamed lobster meat served chilled, tossed in our scallion mayo. Served on a grilled New England style bun.
Maine Lobster Roll – Fresh picked, steamed lobster meat served chilled on a New England style bun with a touch of scallion mayo, drawn butter with lemon and celery salt.
We’re happy to report that all three lobster rolls were spectacular and it’s hard to choose a favorite from the group. The Maine Lobster Roll is new to the Fjord menu and is essentially a combination of the cold and hot rolls, the best of both worlds. All of the lobster rolls are served on freshly baked rolls from NYC that are buttered and toasted perfectly. It is our professional lobster roll recommendation that if you are local you should enjoy the last days of summer by indulging in at least one Fjord lobster roll. You can even enjoy a lobster roll from them year round, plus they have mini lobster salad rolls as hors d’oeuvres on their catering menu. Either way, report back to us about what you thought and let us know whether you chose butter or mayo!
Fjord lobster roll “to-go” tip: if you do not plan to enjoy your lobster roll right away (maybe you’re taking the rolls to eat on a day trip on the water) then ask for a deconstructed lobster roll that you can put together when it’s time to enjoy!
